Movement & inquiry
Jim is a founder and primary organizer of the Lyceum. His work brings martial practice into conversation with climbing, coaching, music, and philosophy. He is interested in how different disciplines reveal timing, structure, rhythm, and attention.
What informs the work.
His training spans Filipino martial arts, Jeet Kune Do concepts, Muay Thai, Savate, Wing Chun, and Tai Chi. His broader movement interests include strength and conditioning, endurance training, yoga, and meditation. These experiences provide different ways of approaching a shared question: how do we learn through practice?
How the practice unfolds.
Sessions with Jim begin with a question and develop through technical exploration, drills, and opportunities to apply the material. Participants help shape the work by sharing what they notice. The intention is to make room for individual goals while keeping attention on the person across from you.
Good training is collaborative. Bring your questions, share your limits, and help your partners learn. The person guiding a session remains part of that exchange.
